East Court in Charlton Kings

Please note, there are no refreshments on this visit.
This garden is one of Cheltenham's hidden gems; tucked away behind a long brick wall and tall wooden gates in Charlton Kings, its extent and the exuberance of its planting are well concealed.
We are fortunate to be invited to share the excitement surrounding this vibrant garden with its head gardener, Lucienne Corcos.
The upper garden around the old house is traditionally planted with formal beds and lawns shaded by the majestic beech trees and a cedar, which may well have been planted when the house was built in the early 1800s.Winding brick paths lead through swathes of herbaceous planting to the lower garden and the high south wall, which offers protection to a wide range of less hardy plants, creating a rather exotic atmosphere in late August. The miniature woodland which leads back towards the house and the tranquil wildlife pond offer a complete contrast.
It is certainly difficult to believe that seven years ago the lower garden was nothing but a scrubby field and an old tennis court. The previous head gardener, Paul Williams, created this wonderful space, so do join our visit at peak time for the garden and enjoy the transformation!
